That disciple whom Jesus loves.

One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table close to Jesus, so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered…
John 13:23-25

I want to love him so badly.

He’s chosen me and chosen me, always pulling me closer to him. He’s given me so much grace in that I might be counted amongst the Elect and when I lost my way, Jesus made it so I would come back to him.

And when I shall die,
‘Receive me,’ I’ll cry,
For Jesus has loved me,
I cannot tell why.

It’s unfathomable that Jesus would love me, but joy! that he does.

I’m always asking for things, but there’s one more thing that I want to have.

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
John 19:26-27

That disciple whom Jesus loves was asked to take his friend’s mother as his own. So great did Jesus love John that he entrusted into his care even his own mother.

As Charles Spurgeon puts it, “Lord, that I will — the more You give me to do for You, the more happy will I be, because I love You and because this trust proves that You do love me.”

Father, I ask that you place your love in my heart every day, and I ask that you would place those that you love, your sons and your daughters who need care, in my life so that I could take care of them. Make me trustworthy to you. Make me reliant on you.

Only give me stuff if I can give it away. Give me love enough for 5000 and still there will be more to go around.

Father, please say to me, “You love Me and I trust you to look after these souls, to help them and care for them, for My sake.”
